Pope Leo XIV and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued similar statements on the future of artificial intelligence, emphasizing the need to prioritize ethical principles over technological efficiency.

Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Modi stated that the development of artificial intelligence must be accompanied by a responsible approach, taking into account the interests of individuals and society, and promoting the inclusive development of technology.

Pope Leo XIV takes a similar position. He emphasized that artificial intelligence must remain a tool for serving humanity, and not replace human dignity, freedom of choice, and moral responsibility.

Both leaders emphasize the need to develop international rules for the use of AI. Key issues include technology security, algorithmic transparency, preventing bias in digital systems, protecting citizens' rights, and ensuring equal access to innovation for developing countries.

The statements place particular emphasis on the need for humans not to be reduced to data sets or objects of automated decisions.
