 CIS Summit Scheduled for May – What Heads of Government Will Discuss in Ashgabat

Ashgabat, February 24 | ORIENT. Plans for the key political event of the spring were officially announced at the CIS headquarters in Minsk. The next meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council (HGC) is scheduled for May 22, 2026, and will be held in the capital of the current chair, Turkmenistan.

As reported by CIS First Deputy Secretary-General Igor Petrishenko, the Ashgabat summit agenda already includes 11 fundamental issues. Turkmenistan, as this year's moderator, is focusing on economic pragmatism and technological integration.

The permanent representatives discussed proposals for the draft agenda for the meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council in Ashgabat.

Eleven issues are proposed for consideration by the heads of government, including documents concerning cooperation in convention and exhibition activities, the integration of major transport arteries passing through the CIS countries, the digital transformation of the mining and metallurgy industries, and cooperation in radio navigation. It is proposed to adopt decisions on declaring the 2027 and 2028 CIS Youth Capitals.

Among other issues, the members of the Council of Ministers discussed the participation of CIS countries in the XXXIII Minsk International Book Fair, which will be held from March 17 to 22. Approximately 400 exhibitors from 25 countries participate in the fair annually. One of the central themes of this year's book fair will be the 35th anniversary of the CIS.
