Magnitude 5.0 Earthquake Hits Xinjiang
30.05.2026 | 13:50 |According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Toksun County in the city of Turpan, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwestern China, at 14:55 (Beijing time) on Friday.
The epicentre was located at 42.20 degrees north latitude and 88.22 degrees east longitude. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 20 km, the CENC report said. Following the earthquake, the Turpan fire department dispatched personnel to the scene.
No reports of casualties or building collapses have been received so far. At present, transport, electricity and telecommunications in Toksun County are functioning normally. The daily lives and production activities of residents have not been affected.
