Russian scientists have created an ultra-strong steel for heavy machinery and the agricultural sector
11.04.2026 | 23:30 |Specialists from Belgorod State National Research University (BelSU) have developed a unique method for producing steel that is simultaneously extremely strong and ductile. The new technology makes it possible to control the metal’s structure at the micro level, replacing brittle particles with flexible layers.
The innovative alloy can withstand enormous pressure of up to 1,190 MPa and can significantly stretch without breaking. Scientists have effectively solved one of metallurgy’s key problems—high hardness is no longer accompanied by brittleness.
The development is of strategic importance for transport and agriculture. The new steel is planned to be used in suspension components and key parts of agricultural machinery operating in extreme conditions.
The industrial partner of the project is the United Metallurgical Company (OMK). The team will soon begin pilot testing of the material on real equipment components.
The implementation of this technology will allow Russian manufacturers to replace imported alloys and improve the reliability of domestic machinery. This is an important step toward safety and durability in critical industries.
