The Economy of the Lebap Velayat Was One of the Main Topics of the Government Meeting

The off-site Cabinet of Ministers meeting in Turkmenabat on Friday, April 10, chaired by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, demonstrated the robust development momentum of the country's eastern region. Today, the Lebap velayat is not only a strategic transportation hub but also a rapidly growing manufacturing cluster.

Agriculture and Food Industry: The first quarter of 2026 showed significant growth in agricultural production and processing. Residents of the region and the country received significantly more local produce:

Vegetables: +28.9%

Flour: +13.9%

Fruits: +8.8%

Milk and eggs: up 3% on average

Retail turnover increased by 11.3%, indicating strong purchasing power.

Industrial Core: The region is becoming a hub for construction materials and chemical production. Key projects:

Turkmengips Plant in Dostluk: Construction is underway at an accelerated pace, with a capacity of 250,000 tons of dry mixes and 20 million square meters of gypsum board per year.

Turkmenabat Chemical Plant: Expanding to produce superphosphate (350,000 tons) and ammonium sulfate (100,000 tons)—these are the foundations for the country's food security.

Garlyk Complex: Work continues to reach its design capacity for potash production.

Energy and Oil and Gas: Scheduled modernization of the Seydi Oil Refinery and liquefied natural gas production facilities in Bagaj and Naip is underway.

Logistics Hub: Lebap accounts for 13.3% of Turkmenistan's total cargo turnover. The President emphasized the maximum utilization of the transit potential of Turkmenabat and Kerki airports. The region's rail transport accounts for 14.6% of the country's total freight volume, and Lebapavtotrans already services 119 scheduled routes.

Social Development and the Private Sector: 20 social facilities and seven wastewater treatment plants are being built as part of the rural program.

A new building complex for the S. Seydi Pedagogical Institute is being constructed in Turkmenabat.

Members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (UIET) plan to open 12 new production facilities, creating over 300 jobs. One of the highlights will be a modern market in the Farab district.
