 Diplomatic Week in Ashgabat Will Bring Together CIS Heads of Government

Turkmenistan, as part of its chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States, is preparing a large-scale program of key integration meetings to be held in Ashgabat.

The main event of the diplomatic week will be the regular meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council, scheduled for May 22 at the Karakum Hotel in Ashgabat. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on preparations for the summit at a Cabinet meeting on Friday.

The draft agenda for the event includes twelve items. In a narrow format, members of the Council will exchange views on current issues of economic cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States and summarize the implementation of the Interstate Cooperation Program in Geodesy, Cartography, and Spatial Data for the Period up to 2026.

Decisions are planned to be made in a broad format regarding cooperation between CIS countries in the areas of congress and exhibition activities, digital transformation of the mining and metallurgy industries, transportation, and other areas. A decision is also planned to declare CIS Youth Capitals in 2027 and 2028.

According to the program, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov will hold a series of bilateral meetings with the heads of delegations from the Commonwealth countries. The signing of a package of joint documents will be an important part of the interstate dialogue.

According to the official schedule of the CIS Executive Committee, the summit will be preceded by a series of expert events: a conciliation meeting of plenipotentiary representatives of the Commonwealth countries will be held at the Karakum Hotel on May 21, and a meeting of the Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units of the CIS Member States will take place at the Yildiz Hotel.

In addition, Ashgabat will host a plenary session of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG) at the Yildiz Hotel on May 22–23.

The President of Turkmenistan emphasized the strategic nature of trade, economic, and humanitarian partnerships within the CIS and instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the impeccable organization of all planned forums.
