Mongolia and Turkmenistan hold first-ever interparliamentary dialogue

Recently, a videoconference was held in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan with the participation of members of the Turkmen-Mongolian parliamentary group, as well as a member of the State Great Khural of Mongolia and Chair of the Mongolia–Turkmenistan parliamentary group, Gankhuleg Munkhtsog.

At the beginning of the meeting, MP Gankhuleg Munkhtsog introduced the members of the group and emphasized that since 1992, relations and cooperation between the two countries have been expanding across many areas. He also noted that mutual visits of the heads of state have strengthened the legal framework of bilateral relations and intensified negotiations on expanding trade and economic cooperation.

During his visit to Mongolia in June last year, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that 14 intergovernmental agreements had been signed to enhance cooperation in trade, economy, healthcare, and culture. He stressed that strengthening ties between parliamentary groups and standing committees, as well as expanding cooperation between legislative bodies, would play an important role in implementing these agreements.

The meeting became a practical step toward implementing the agreements reached at the leadership level of the two countries. During the talks, the deputies agreed to expand contacts between relevant committees, as well as among young parliamentarians and women MPs.

In addition, the discussions addressed opportunities to support economic cooperation, with parliamentary diplomacy viewed as a tool to promote business relations between the two countries.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their intention to continue dialogue and develop cooperation in various fields.
