Development of Transport and Logistics Corridors: Visit of the Turkmen Delegation to the Ports of Georgia
01.04.2026 | 22:05 |On 31 March 2026, within the framework of an official visit, a meeting was held between the Turkmen delegation led by Mr. N.Atagulyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, and the management of the Port of Poti. The meeting was also attended by Ms. T.Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, as well as representatives of JSC “Georgian Railway”, the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia, and other officials.

Taking note of the positive dynamics in Turkmen–Georgian relations, the parties emphasized that the transport and logistics sector constitutes one of the key areas of bilateral partnership.
In this context, both parties expressed their interest in the implementation and further development of international transport and transit corridors, including the Caspian Sea–Black Sea Corridor, the Lapis Lazuli Corridor, and the ‘Green Ports’ initiative.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed prospects for increasing cargo throughput, further developing multimodal logistics solutions, introducing advanced technologies to expedite transit freight processing, and enhancing coordination between rail and maritime carriers. The prospects for integrating the ports of Turkmenbashi and Poti into the international East–West transport corridors were considered.
Special attention was given to the exchange of experience in the management of port terminals, as well as to exploring opportunities for implementing joint investment projects.

As a result of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to establishing a sustainable and modern logistics chain that will serve as a key component in the development of interregional economic ties.
Following the negotiations, the Turkmen delegation undertook a guided tour of the ports of Poti and Anaklia, which enabled them to assess their operational capacity and potential for infrastructure development.
