At a government meeting on Friday, May 8, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov reported on extensive preparations for a series of high-level forums to be held on the Caspian coast.
Thanks to the successful implementation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's foreign policy strategy, Avaza has firmly established itself as a prestigious center for regular high-level meetings, international conferences, and forums organized under the auspices of the UN.
One of the key events of the fall will be the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asian Countries and the Republic of Azerbaijan, scheduled for October 8, 2026. This summit highlights the growing role of regional dialogue and integration.
Following this, on October 9, the next meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States will be held in Avaza. Given Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the CIS this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Commonwealth Executive Committee, is thoroughly preparing for this summit. In the lead-up to the summits, meetings of the foreign ministers of the participating countries are also planned.
The agenda in Avaza will be supplemented by a number of significant forums. An International Women's Dialogue will be held there, dedicated to the theme "The Role of Women in Maintaining Peace and Achieving Sustainable Development." An international conference, "Demographic Processes and Sustainable Development: Contemporary Challenges and International Experience," is also planned.
A seminar of the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member Nations is planned for October 7, focusing on ensuring universal access to healthcare and sustainable development goals.
With the ecology of the Caspian Sea as a top priority, Turkmenistan has initiated a meeting on Caspian environmental issues, scheduled for October 7 at the ministerial level of the Caspian littoral states.
Also, given the strategic importance of water issues for the region, a high-level meeting of regional states and Afghanistan on the conservation of Central Asian water resources is planned to be held in Avaza.
This busy schedule of international events in Avaza confirms Turkmenistan's status as an active and responsible participant in global and regional processes.
