CMG Launches Massive Media Coverage for 2026 World Cup. 92 Live Matches, AI and New Brand Opportunities

48 teams, 104 matches, three host countries, integration of TV and digital platforms, and exclusive rights until 2031

As reported by CCTV+, China Media Group unveiled its comprehensive media coverage plan for the FIFA 2026 World Cup. The tournament will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. For the first time, three countries are co-hosting. The number of teams has increased from 32 to 48, and the number of matches to a record 104.

CCTV-5 will broadcast 92 matches live. CCTV-5+ will simultaneously broadcast 12 key matches of the final group stage. The Olympic Channel, together with Yangshipin, CCTV Sports and the CCTV News app, will provide 24/7 coverage, creating an integrated network across television and mobile devices.

AI will be widely used in the programs, expanding the boundaries of traditional viewing and redefining the fan experience.

Zhu Shuqin, Vice President of Hisense Group, noted: “What we saw today is truly impressive. Richer products, more diverse media matrices and wider communication channels. This innovation perfectly matches current market and media trends and will undoubtedly open up more opportunities for brand development.”

CMG officially presented its brand communication package for the 2026 World Cup. It includes five main product series: rights activation, immersive stadium experience, digital and smart events, trending topics and interactive engagement.

Zhao Le, Vice President of GoNature Outdoor Sports Group, emphasized: “We aim to use the World Cup to enhance our brand’s global influence. Thanks to CMG’s powerful platform, we can tell the story of Chinese outdoor sports brands to audiences around the world.”

On Friday, CMG and FIFA announced an agreement for a new cycle of competitions, including the 2026 and 2030 World Cups, as well as the 2027 and 2031 Women’s World Cups. CMG obtained exclusive rights to all media broadcasts in mainland China.

The World Cup is not just about football. It is a battle of brands, technology and the attention of billions. CMG is not just showing matches. It is creating a new language for sports television — with AI, digital platforms and interactivity. 104 matches, 48 teams, 3 countries. And one goal: for the viewer not just to watch, but to live the game. The question is whether we are ready for such football. Or whether it will be stronger than us. The answer will come on June 11. Until then — get your remotes and smartphones ready. The 2026 World Cup will be everywhere.
