Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Held Meetings at Windsor Castle
18.05.2026 | 23:50 |During his visit to London, National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited Windsor Castle, where he met with King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The British monarch warmly recalled his personal interaction with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the commemorative events in Çanakkale in March 2015 and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's visit to London in 2023, noting that high-level contacts serve as a reliable foundation for the development of bilateral relations.
Charles III paid special attention to the participation of Oguljahan Atabayeva, Vice President of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Care, calling it a sign of deep respect for the British people. During the visit, the head of the Khalk Maslakhaty also held talks with Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, and his wife Sophie Helen.
During these meetings, the parties discussed in detail the integration of Turkmen Akhal-Teke horses into international equestrian organizations and the scientific aspects of using hippotherapy for the rehabilitation of children with disabilities, which piqued the interest of the British royal family.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov shared with his British partners a significant historical detail about how, in 1956, the famous Turkmen horse Melegush was presented as a gift to Queen Elizabeth II, who was delighted by the harmony between the horseman and the horse.
Continuing the program, the Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty visited a specialized exhibition of Turkmen horse harness and carpets in Windsor, observed international equestrian performances, and held a brief meeting with Elchin Guliyev, Head of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, who conveyed greetings from President Ilham Aliyev.
At the end of the visit, members of the British royal family gratefully accepted Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's invitation to visit Ashgabat to participate in celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence.
