Ashgabat Chess Grand Prix with a 10,000 Manat Prize Fund
22.04.2026 | 16:35 |The chess season in Turkmenistan is gaining momentum: the capital's school of chess and checkers is preparing to host another major battle. From May 3rd to 8th, Ashgabat will host the "Ashgabat" stage of the National Grand Prix, a tournament that will bring together the country's leading professionals to compete for rating points and a substantial prize fund.
The organizers emphasize that the Grand Prix is a platform for those who live the game. Participants must be athletes and coaches who are official members of the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan (CFT). Experienced arbiters, FIDE referee Serdar Annaberdyev and national referee Aygul Saryeva, will ensure the integrity of play and adherence to the regulations.
The Chess Federation is handling all organizational matters, creating the most comfortable conditions for participants to concentrate. Out-of-town athletes will be accommodated at the Grand Hotel in Ashgabat.
Beyond the sporting prestige, there's a substantial prize at stake. The total prize fund for this stage is 10,000 manat. Winners will receive not only cash prizes but also certificates of honor, medals, and commemorative gifts from the Ashgabat Chess Federation.
Registration is now open and will run until 6:00 PM on April 26. You can apply online at https://bit.ly/granpriashgabat2026.
The tournament promises to be one of the highlights of the May sports calendar, confirming Ashgabat's status as an important center for the development of intellectual sports in the region.
