Spotify introduces labeling to protect listeners from AI-generated music

Streaming service Spotify is launching a new verification system that will allow users to easily distinguish real artists from content created by artificial intelligence. In the near future, a special “Spotify Verified” badge with a green checkmark will appear on artist profiles and in search results.

The new badge will confirm that the music was created by a real person. To receive verification, an artist must meet strict criteria: maintain a stable audience, prove their activity outside the platform through social media, merchandise sales, or live performances, and fully comply with the service’s safety policies.

The platform emphasizes that priority will be given to musicians who contribute to culture. Verification will be denied to AI personas, neural tracks, and so-called “content farms” — accounts that generate background music solely for passive listening. Spotify aims to highlight creators whose work carries unique human value.

As the music market continues to evolve rapidly, reviews will be conducted regularly. Artists who do not receive verification immediately will be able to apply again in the future as their recognition grows. The system will be continuously improved to effectively distinguish human creativity from algorithmic generation.
