Turkmen Services Rescued the Crew of an Iranian Vessel in Distress
14.01.2026 | 20:00 |EVENT | ORIENT. A successful rescue operation has been completed in the Caspian Sea. Thanks to the professionalism and efficiency of Turkmen coastal services, the lives of 14 sailors from the Iranian bulk carrier Rona are no longer in danger.
SOS distress signal was received by the duty officer of the Turkmen coastal services on the morning of January 14. The crew of the Rona, in a critical situation in the open sea, requested emergency assistance.
The Turkmen side responded immediately. State emergency response forces and resources were deployed to the scene. Despite difficult maritime conditions, the operation was carried out in strict compliance with international maritime standards.
The coordinated efforts of the rescuers yielded results: all 14 crew members were successfully evacuated from the vessel. According to preliminary reports, the rescued sailors are citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of India. The rescued crew is currently receiving all necessary support. The Turkmen side is implementing procedures stipulated by international maritime regulations.
This incident once again confirms Turkmenistan's status as a responsible participant in the Caspian dialogue, for which the safety of human life and mutual assistance at sea are an absolute priority.
