Female Persian Leopard with Cub Has Been Recorded in the Badkhyz Nature Reserve
16.01.2026 | 21:50 |In the Badkhyz State Nature Reserve, a female Persian leopard with her cub has been recorded using camera traps. According to experts, this sighting increases the total number of known female leopards in the reserve to three.
“The matriarch of this group is Umeda, a female approximately 9 years old, who has given birth to seven known cubs to date. Her daughter, Mehri, was born in 2023 and is also an important member of the family group. A new female with a cub has now joined them, and it is likely the eldest daughter of Umeda,” experts wrote on their social media pages.
This fact is of great importance for the conservation and growth of the Persian leopard population in the Badkhyz Nature Reserve, as it confirms successful breeding and the natural recovery of this rare species within a protected area.
